For Schools that have registered, Firebird Poetry will award ANNUAL PRIZES of:
£100 to the school which is the most active in submitting pupils poetry 3 prizes of £50 to writers of poems selected by the Judges in the age group 5-11 3 prizes of £50 to writers of poems selected by the Judges in the age group 12-16 For Poetry submitted direct by young people, Firebird will make the following annual awards: 3 prizes of £50 to writers of poems selected by the Judges in the age group 5-11 3 prizes of £50 to writers of poems selected by the Judges in the age group 12-16 SUBMISSIONS SHOULD BE RECEIVED BY 31st December 2011 AND WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY 31st May 2012. |
Michael Warburton, the founder of Firebird, who has been published in a number of anthologies and was a founding contributor to the Chelsea Poets Society commented:
“Poetry has been one of the most enduring joys of my life, both reading it and writing it and I am convinced that there are undiscovered talents, untapped poetic gems out there. Many people may not have sustained a body of work but may have written just one poem beautifully. I believe that we will attract many such single poems where a writer has captured perfectly an emotion, a moment of beauty or an insight into the human condition.”
The Firebird Poetry Award
The Firebird Poetry is truly an ‘all comers’ prize to reflect that poetry is a medium of expression that is open to all of humanity.
The Firebird Children’s Poetry Prize will be awarded to works written by children.
To make Firebird as inclusive as possible there is no entry fee.
All poems that are posted up will be automatically entered into the awards unless the contributor states otherwise.
